GIVING FEEDBACK

  • Timely and constructive
  • Ensure privacy and make time
  • Let student speak first by inviting them to reflect on the activity (before giving your feedback)
  • Be specific rather then general
  • Focus on behaviours rather than the person
  • Describe the behaviour rather than judge it
  • Balanced and constructive
  • Be clear and direct – make sure the student knows what was right and where they need to improve
  • Check that the student has understood and understands what is expected of them
  • Be careful with the language you use (try not to use terms such as ‘never’, ‘always’ )
  • Develop and agree an action plan
  • End on a positive note (sandwich approach to feedback)
